    FIRST PHASE (2012-2017)

    Legal Literacy and Legal Awareness Programme-01

    Introduction

    “Access to Justice – North Eastern States and Jammu & Kashmir (A2J-NEJK)” Scheme implemented in eight states of North East (including Sikkim), UT of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh at the total cost of Rs.30 crore. Period of the phase was from 2012 to 2017.

     

    Key Objectives

    i. Support national and local justice delivery institutions to improve Access to Justice and developed legal and representational capacities of disadvantaged groups, marginalized, poor and vulnerable sections of the society, particularly women, children, Schedules Castes and Scheduled Tribes etc.
    ii. Enhance Legal Awareness of women and men belonging to marginalized groups.
    iii. Develop strategies and initiatives that address the barriers they face in accessing justice in legal, social and economic domains.

     

    Key Achievements

    i. 20,672 PRI official trained on basic Laws/Legislations/Acts in collaboration with State Institute of Rural Development in 5 states- Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura & Meghalaya
    ii. 5156 PRIs officials, community people & Preraks provided legal literacy by State Resource Center of NLMA in Assam & Sikkim
    iii. 350 women of tribal organization as Resource Persons trained on legal literacy by State Women Commission, Meghalaya.
    iv. Legal awareness program on POCSO Act for 8000 college students in collaboration with SLSA Meghalaya.
    v. 1400 Gaon Buras & Burhis sensitized on synergy between Tribal Justice System and Regular Justice System in collaboration with SLSA Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh
    vi. 575 stakeholders sensitized on Special initiative on Child Rights and Child Sexual Abuse in partnership with the Department of Psychiatry (DoP), Manipur
